KREONET perfSONAR
KREONET operates a network performance monitoring infrastructure based on perfSONAR to continuously test and monitor various network performance metrics.
Network Performance Metrics
Regular testing and monitoring of network performance metrics enable the early detection and swift resolution of network issues.
Key metrics and testing tools include:
- Bandwidth : iperf2, iperf3
- One-way and round-trip delay (latency)) : owamp, twamp, ping
- Transmission path : traceroute
perfSONAR
perfSONAR is a comprehensive network performance management framework. It combines tools for testing network performance metrics, a test scheduler to prevent overlapping test times, and an archive system for storing and reviewing test results.
The framework uses pScheduler to manage and execute test schedules.
Additionally, its web-based archive and viewer allow users to easily access various performance metrics and diagnose potential network issues.
perfSONAR Test Points
perfSONAR is deployed on over 2,000 servers worldwide. Within KREONET, perfSONAR has been installed at key domestic and international locations to monitor data transfer paths between major nodes within KREONET and between KREONET and external networks.
Most perfSONAR servers operated by the global research network community are configured with test scheduling permissions set to "Everybody," allowing anyone to run tests.
