Large-Scale Data Transfer Solution (Globus)
KREONET provides Globus, a software-based data transfer platform that enables fast and reliable ment of large-scale research data between collaborating institutions. This service is provided in a Software as a Service (SaaS) model to support scientific workflows across high-performance research networks.
Background
- KREONET provides a high-performance data transfer environment for its member institutions through the deployment of Science DMZ architecture and dedicated Data Transfer Nodes (DTNs). To support this environment, KREONET has adopted advanced data transfer solutions that enable efficient ment of large-scale scientific data
- The infrastructure is aligned with global initiatives such as the U.S.-based Science DMZ, the National Research Platform (NRP), and DTN projects between supercomputing centers—strengthening international collaboration and interoperability
Key Features
- Globus enables high-performance data transfers, collaborative sharing and management, and integration with research portals through user-defined applications.
- Globus provides a KREONET portal (https://globus.kreonet.net), supporting third-party transfers, file sharing, endpoint control, administrative tools, and DTN clustering across multi-node I/O systems.
Expected Benefits
- The administrator console enables efficient management of transfer tasks and designated endpoints across KREONET’s regional network centers. It also serves as a tool for analyzing data transfer patterns and monitoring performance, helping to optimize overall transfer efficiency.
- As a premium service for data-intensive research, the platform supports high-speed collaboration by enabling large-scale data sharing and transfer across scientific communities—addressing the growing demands of big data–driven research paradigms.
Use Cases
- The platform is actively used by KREONET member institutions, including KFE, IBS, and KASI, to enable large-scale data transfers. It supports 100G Data Transfer Node (DTN) cluster–based transfers from KISTI’s 5th generation supercomputer, Nurion, and is also utilized for high-speed data ment within KISTI’s AI Data Sharing and Utilization service (AIDA).
