KREONET, a Ultra-high-performance network for national science and technology innovation in the era of digital transformation.

Korea Research Environment Open NETwork (KREONET) began in 1988 as a National Research Network Project. It launched Korea's first TCP/IP-based internet service, the National Grid network, the Global Ring Network for Advanced Applications Development (GLORIAD), the Korea's Global Lambda Exchange Node (KRLight), the Software-defined Wide Area Network (KREONET-S), the KREONET Quantum communication (QKD) project, the National Data Exchange Node (NDeX).

KREONET, which currently operates the Terra-scale research network, has grown into a core national science and technology infrastructure for new scientific discoveries in data-intensive scientific research as well as for scientific and technological innovation.

  • Article 4 of the Articles of Incorporation of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information(KISTI) designates the institution's mission as "Building and operation of a global advanced research network and service development of ting-edge network technologies."

    - KISTI is a government-funded research institute under the National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST), and provides the non-profit/public-purpose KREONET services.
